Grabov Rat, the peninsula

     Grabov Rat [pronounced graabov raht in Croatian] is a small peninsula on the southern shore of the island of Brač [braach], Croatia, around 2 km eastwards of the city of Bol. [MAP]  It can be approached on land by a dirt road,  rough and narrow, or by sea if you don’t mind scrambling over some rocks.
      Three rather small dwellings, cottage type, approx. (6x8) m² outer dimensions, were built on the peninsula from 2001 to 2003. They were built in a local tradition of small auxiliary agricultural shelters called “pojata” [poyahtaa]. Our pojata is the most inland one, some 150 m from the shore. [PHOTO]

Grabov Rat, the website

      The bottom of this page contains a scan of the earliest known text in Croatian language on the island of Brač . It was chiseled in year 1184, in Croatian Cyrillic, an old Slavic script,  into a church marble doorframe (lintel) in the city of Povlja. The part scanned for this page reads:
     “I, master named Radonja, built this portal to please God”.
      We believe this website will be an information portal to a piece of land which became for us a symbol of our homeland Croatia.
