Strait of Gibraltar : This Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) image shows the narrow channel at the Strait of Gibraltar which separates Spain from Morocco, Europe from Africa. Note the colorful waters on the Atlantic side of the strait (left) and the plume on the Mediterranean side. The constricted water flow causes subsurface internal waves which travel eastward.
