Western democracy, updated

In principle, every western citizen (Western Europe and US) has an equal say in the political processes of his/her state. In practice, of course, some of us are more equal than others. On paper, were are one-person-one- vote nations. In reality, we are more than a bit of an oligarchy, in which a handful of wealthy people dominate.

Now, to think about it:

( i) is this bad per se or just because economic inequality is the most visible one;

(ii) is this unavoidable in a society based on industrial production within current technolo- gical systems?
