Beauty
comes in all shapes and sizes (!?)
No,
beauty does not come in all shapes and sizes. It's just an old
saying to boost self worth and give people a hope for some recognition.
Obese
people are ugly. They are sort of pollution on the beauty horizon.
Please don’t tell me there are civilizations where fat women are
appealing. Please don’t tell me that the old masters never
painted a skinny nude or angel. Please don’t tell me that we all
are responsible for the life style which promotes overweight. And
don’t tell me rising levels of obesity correlate with good
things such as rising economic wealth. Hey, I
don’t have a problem with smokers (well ... most of the time)
and drinkers (when I join them), but I do have a problem with an
obese person sitting next to me on a plane or bus or any- where for
that matter.

Global
obesity, An expanding world by
The Economist online, Feb 7th 2011
The maps on the right, which are drawn from a global study
led by M. Ezzati of Imperial College, London, and published in the
Lancet, show that, Polynesia aside, obesity was a rich-world
phenomenon in 1980. By 2008 the rich world had itself expanded,
bringing obesity to groups within countries that were previously
considered poor, such as Brazil and South Africa. During that
period, the prevalence rate of obesity among men doubled to nearly
10%. One country has stubbornly resisted this trend: for all its
dynamism since India opened up its economy in 1990, its men have
on average become even thinner. The study suggests that Congo is
the thinnest country in the world, and Nauru the fattest. |
