In
1960's and 70's I was enthusiastically involved in the promotion of
SI (International System of Units) in Croatia. Nowadays, some thirty
years later, I’m not so much in love with the metric scale used in
the system but I still insist on and prize the purity and the logic
of the physical quantities built into the system.
On
the meaning of the physical quantity named ‘mass’ I’ve
commented already (grWeekly041219),
but the mix-up of ‘mass’ and ‘weight’ in everyday life I
accept with some resignation (at least on the Earth’s surface).
So, I was pleasantly surprised when on the label of pickled
cucumbers (by Spajić, Čačinci, Croatia) I saw
the correct usage of the term ‘mass’.
