In an earlier comment (grWeekly070211) I’ve concluded, based on the ‘power law’ analysis of the top 256 ranked players, that the apparent Roger Federer dominance is not so much his own brilliance (he is just slightly above the power law prediction for the 1st position) as it is the under-achievement (from the power law point of view) of the players from 3rd to 8th position; at that time, end of 2006, #2 (Rafael Nadal, that is) just started to catch up. Now, when Roger’s dominance is over, what is the main legacy of his reign? The graph below shows that Roger pushed the entire ATP tour on the higher level. Just look what #1, #2, and # 3 were like in 2003, when Roger was #6 or #5!
