50th anniversary of my high school graduation (4)

More on the grades of our senior class: It caught my eye that the final grade of a particular student is not simply an average of the 16 grades for the individual subjects taught and graded. The graph below reveals the grades for the three students of our class, whom I, for the purpose of this remark, call ALPHA, BETA and GAMMA. Their average grades are 2.563, 2.625 and 2.625, respectively. Simple number rounding would give grade 3 (C) for all of them; however, only GAMMA's final grade was 3 (C), while ALPHA and BETA were graded 2 (D). This is, in particular, unexpected for BETA who has exactly the same average grade as GAMMA. So, our teachers didn't do simple averaging, more was involved. If we take out 'physical' education (sports) and 'pre-military' training, then the averages are 2.500, 2.429 and 2.571, respectively. OK, that downgrades BETA but ALPHA is still on the cusp.
