Did you
hear that Einstein’s equation E=mc2
reveals how matter is converted to energy? Let me remind you that
‘m’ in that equation is not matter but mass. Mass and
energy are physical quantities, i.e. attributes used to describe
matter and its motion. Einstein uncovered a stunning relationship
between those two physical quantities. However, regardless of how
resourceful the relationship is, it does not say that matter is
converted into one of its attributes. Would you say that the ideal gas
equation pV=nRT shows how a gas container is converted
into temperature?
And
as ideas spread, they become increasingly simplistic - until what
eventually becomes part of the public consciousness, part of what
"everyone knows", it is no more than a crude caricature of
the original.
